Hey there lovelies, I’m Laura McAlister.
I’m a Catholic Christian and the proprietress here at Catholic Cravings.
This blog is a place where I share my love for Christ Jesus and the Catholic Church as well as some of my spiritual struggles and nerdy joys.
I work in campus ministry at a university here in Sydney, Australia. It’s the best fun in the world and I wouldn’t swap it for anything. I have an Bachelor of Arts in Medieval History and a Masters of Arts in Theology. I also like tea, wearing pyjamas, Divine Mercy chaplets, intense discussions and chocolate.
What Do I Write About?
I write about most things under the Catholic sun from the Council of Trent to why atheists think Christians aren’t crazy enough, from wearing mantillas at Mass to the Calvinism. I write about prayer, depression, the Eucharist, femininity, the Scriptures and anything Catholicky that grips my heart… or would make a funny list. I have a weakness for lists!
To give you an idea, my most popular posts are:
- 7 Types of Catholic Nerds and Where to Find Them
- 40 Catholic Pick-Up Lines
- 50 Simple Steps to Wearing a Chapel Veil or Mantilla

So… apparently I’m not the only one with a fondness for lists!
Why Do I Write?
I write because I want to see people get hungry for God. I want us all to crave Christ and to long for the only One who can fulfill our desires. The best way I can do that is to share the good things, the true things, the hard things and just plain silly things about being Catholic and loving the Lord.
I want everyone to know the full riches of the Catholic Faith and even more life-transforming joy of knowing the love of God and be filled with Him who is Life, Light and Love. But obviously, there’s no way I can make that happen or even describe it adequately enough. So I want to be the taste-test before the meal, the free sample in the deli, the appetizers that makes your stomach rumble and even (if God so wills it), the “5 miles to the next McDonalds!” sign on the highway.
I write so that you’ll stop reading what I have to say and instead, seek the Word of God in the Holy Scriptures, in the teachings of Holy Mother Church, and above all in the true heavenly banquet, the Holy Eucharist.
A Little About My Story
I’m from a kinda-Catholic family. I was baptised and confirmed in the Church but never really got what any of it was about. That all changed when I encountered Christ as a teenager, fell head-over-heels in love with my Saviour and became an Evangelical Christian in the Anglican Church. I learnt so much and loved it.
At the beginning of 2012, however, after a good old fashioned spiritual crisis, I returned to the Catholic Church.
I’ve found that becoming Catholic hasn’t just a return to my roots but the fulfillment of all I believed and loved as an Evangelical. It is in and through the Catholic Church that I know Christ most intimately and the Faith we profess most fully.
